Privacy Policy
This is a translation for your convenience. The German Datenschutzerklärung is legally binding.
This page explains which data is processed when you visit astrangersjourney.app, why, and what rights you have.
At a glance
- When you open the site, our host stores technical access data (server log files).
- If you sign up for the beta and confirm it by email, we store your name and email address to send you the invitation.
- Google Analytics only runs if you agree in the cookie banner.
- A few things are remembered only in your browser, such as your last reply in the chat. They never leave your device.
- Fonts, images, videos and sounds come from our own server. Nothing is loaded from third parties, except Google Analytics after you agree.

Hosting
The website, the database for beta sign-ups and the mailbox we send the confirmation emails from are hosted by Mittwald CM Service GmbH & Co. KG, Königsberger Straße 4-6, 32339 Espelkamp, Germany (Mittwald). For details see Mittwald’s privacy policy.
The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. We have a legitimate interest in providing our website reliably. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Mittwald, which ensures that Mittwald processes our visitors’ data only on our instructions and in compliance with the GDPR.
Server log files
The host automatically collects and stores information your browser transmits with every request:
- browser type and version
- operating system
- referrer URL
- host name of the accessing computer
- time of the request
- IP address
This data is not combined with other data sources. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. We have a legitimate interest in presenting and improving our website without technical errors, which requires the server log files.
Beta sign-up
If you sign up for the TestFlight beta, we store your name, your email address and the language of the page in a database at our host. We use them only to send you the beta invitation by email. A hidden field in the form keeps automated sign-ups out; it collects no further data.
Sign-up uses a double opt-in: we first send you an email with a link. Only when you confirm through that link are you added to the list. This way nobody can sign up with someone else’s address. If you don’t confirm, we delete your details after 7 days. As proof of your consent, we store the time and IP address of the sign-up and of the confirmation.
We send these emails through our mailbox at Mittwald (see “Hosting”).
The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, which you give by ticking the box in the form and clicking the confirmation link. We keep the record of sign-up and confirmation on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR: we have a legitimate interest in being able to prove your consent (Art. 7 (1) GDPR). You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing hello@marble.one, and we will delete your data. Otherwise we keep it until its purpose has been fulfilled, at the latest until the end of the beta.
The beta runs on TestFlight, an app by Apple. If you accept the invitation and use TestFlight, Apple’s privacy policy applies.
Cookies and your consent
On your first visit, a banner asks whether you allow cookies for statistics. The banner comes from our own server. We store your choice in a cookie called hasConsent for 13 months, so we don’t have to ask on every visit. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (c) GDPR in conjunction with § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG.
If your browser sends the “Do Not Track” signal, we don’t show the banner and don’t load Google Analytics.
You can change your choice at any time. This deletes the cookie holding your choice and the Google Analytics cookies, and the banner appears again.
Google Analytics
If you agree, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (Google). Only after you agree do we load a script from googletagmanager.com for this.
Google Analytics shows us how the website is used, for example page views, time on site, device, browser and operating system, approximate origin, as well as scrolling, clicks on external links and downloads. For this, Google sets the cookies _ga and _ga_…, which are kept for up to two years. We do not link this data to you as a person. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.
Data may be transferred to Google servers in the USA. The transfer is based on the EU Commission’s standard contractual clauses. Google is also certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR and § 25 (1) TDDDG. You can withdraw it at any time with the button above. You can also prevent collection with Google’s browser add-on. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Google.
What your browser remembers
To make the site feel like a conversation, it remembers a few things in your browser’s storage (localStorage and sessionStorage):
- your last reply in the chat and when you sent it, so he can pick it up at the end of the page,
- the picture you chose as the chat background in the gallery,
- when you were last here, so he can greet you when you return,
- until you close the tab, that the opening animation has already played.
This information is not transmitted to us or anyone else. It serves only features you use on the site itself (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG). You can delete it at any time by removing the site data for astrangersjourney.app in your browser.
Sharing
After signing up you can recommend the site. The button opens your device’s share sheet or copies the link. We don’t learn what you share or with whom.
We have an Instagram profile (@astrangersjourneyapp). On this website it is only linked; no Instagram content is embedded. When you visit our profile, we are jointly responsible with Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland, for the processing this triggers. Instagram may analyse your behaviour, even if you are not logged in, and show you interest-based advertising. We have only limited influence on this processing. The legal basis for our profile is our legitimate interest in a presence on social networks (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). For details see Instagram’s privacy policy. Transfers to the USA are based on the EU Commission’s standard contractual clauses; Meta is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. You can exercise your rights both with us and with Meta.
Storage period
Unless a more specific period is given above, we keep personal data until its purpose has been fulfilled. If you request deletion or withdraw your consent, we delete your data unless statutory retention periods prevent this; in that case we delete it as soon as those reasons no longer apply.
Your rights
You have the right at any time to
- free information about your stored data, its origin, recipients and the purpose of processing (Art. 15 GDPR),
- rectification of incorrect data (Art. 16 GDPR),
- erasure of your data (Art. 17 GDPR),
- restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
- withdraw consent you have given, with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR). This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out until then.
For this and any questions about data protection, contact us at hello@marble.one.
Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): Where we process data on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will then no longer process the data concerned, unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the member state of your habitual residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement.
Encryption
This site uses TLS encryption. You can recognise it by “https://” and the lock icon in your browser’s address bar. Data you send us, for example when signing up for the beta, cannot be read by third parties.
